Sci-Fi Con' - Liverpool 2014
AM: The Sci-Fi Convention in Liverpool was a great success. We enjoyed ourselves a lot, managed to generate a lot of interest in our art and sell a few things as well. While we were there we met David McCluskey, the author of 'Interesting Tymes' the book I illustrated, as he was there to promote and sell said book. I signed a few copies and managed to get in a few words of promotion for HRAM Comics on the radio as well. Speaking of radios, we will be following up the opportunity of an interview about our work and characters for the radio in the near future. More on that as and when. As you would expect from us, the whole event was not without amusing-in-hindsight hiccups. The bus there took a detour and made us an hour or so late so we were very tired the night before the convention started. Also, out of all the pens, pencils, paper and paraphernalia we could have forgotten to take, what did I leave behind? The keys to our money box. Thankfully with the aid of a screwdriver, David managed to rectify this. Best exchange - David: Not doing us Scousers any favours am I? I broke into that tin no problem! Andrew: Well, I'm Aberdonian, I need to get in - there's money inside! Serves me right for putting them on the key-hook at home to 'make sure I remember them'. They were still there to mock us upon our return! All's well that ends well though and the money tin has made a full recovery. HR: It wasn't so much the money in the box that we were wanting to get at - it was the stickers we had printed for the convention that were also inside the box. Nobody puts baby in a corner...or indeed a box. With it being a Sci-Fi convention, there were lots of great costumes on show too. We saw Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Boba Fett and even made friends with some Jawas. Such a friendly bunch AM: Also, on the stall next to us, there was a fellow artist, who not only came from my hometown, but also went to the same school as me. We chatted, exchanged art talk and old school memories and the like. Always good to meet a fellow artist.
